I just tracked my brand new Oak kit in the studio and I swear it is the most incredible sounding drums I have ever played!! I can't believe the sound I heard in the play back speakers and they weren't even mixed yet. Just unbelievable!!!!

Will recordings be available soon...even a sneak peak sample?? I played one of those Yamaha Oak kits at GC and wondered how they would sound recorded (oak shells). You are the first that I know of who used them in a studio environment.

So, any samples to share (even a 10-second blurb of a drum-only track??)

I will try and post an audio track as soon as I get one. The engineer won't let it go until he has the song done. Maybe I can get him to seperate just the drums soon and get an MP3 of them.

Yeah, even if you guys don't want to release any "riffs", "hooks", or all around musical coolness a drumtrack, alone, would not be enough to release the idea.

Not trying to push for this, but I'm REALLY curious after reading your post.

To be honest, when I played that Oak kit (and I know it was a Yamaha kit, not yours...) I thought that it would be a killer live kit, but thought that it would be too much for the studio. I did REALLY like the kick, though...

Yeah, I thought that it might be too much for the studio also but the engineer went crazy over the kit and so did I. We had an evans kick muffler in the kick drum and a single moon gel on the snare with the batter head tune a little loose, the strainer about 1/3 tight, the 4 toms wide open using all evans G2s (coated) on the toms and snare and an emad on the kick. I hope I can figure out how to post the audio track when I get it.

Well, I'm asking to hear it so if you get the track e-mail it to me and I'll post the link. You'll need a place to upload it to in order to provide a link for others to download.

All you Evans head users always get me curious! I'm a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kinda guy, and I really like my Aquarian Studio-X coated heads on my toms, but some of the drums I hear with Evans heads sound really nice.

Evans is like Sabian to me...nothing bad to say about either company, just no personal experience with either brand. When I started playing I don't think Evans brand was even started yet...I was a Remo guy until Aquarian stole my heart.

Just an FYI, Druminator1973 sent me an MP3 audio sample and a picture of the kit this morning. The kit looks GREAT...haven't had a chance to listen to the audio sample yet.

I will make the pic available to view and the soundclip available for download as soon as I can. Monday nights are band rehearsal nights so not sure if I'll get time to upload those files tonight or not, but I'll try.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program...BEEP!!!!

Hey everybody,

I just wanted to tell you what I told Danny and that is this track that he is going to post is only a ruff with a scratch guitar and has not been mixed and doesn't even have a fade on the end. It has a few tom fills but the producer really wanted it to just stay solid and let the lyrics have most of the attention.

Peace, Jon

DB, you're kit is so beautiful that I'm actually a little mad right now.

The difference between dying in a stupid way and dying naturally is whether or not you're trying to get on youtube.

Elijah, if you are referring to the pics that I posted above then that is NOT my kit. I was merely posting pics of a fellow forum-member, after I was intrigued in his post about laying studio tracks with an oak kit. I have maple shells, the grain isn't nearly as dark...althought both our kits are a natural finish. Probably where you got confused...
